Less than 2 months after Obama won the Primary for him, Bennet has told Obama to "go screw himself" on the President's new stimulus package.

So, Bennet OPPOSES additional stimulous spending - despite the fact that the stimulus has been PROVEN to put people back to work - but he is "still open to some tax credits to support the energy industry in Colorado."

In other words "Nothing for the people, but more tax breaks for big business."

As many of you know I write over at KHOW's website, fighting the righties the best I can, trying to shed some progressive light to win people who are on the fence .

I woke up this Labor Day to hear George Brockler, just another conservative talker on KHOW spewing his slant, trying to get Dan Maes to quit, I think, because I didn't listen long enough to be sure before I switched back to Sirota.

The thing is that righty radio takes sides, doesn't disguise their partisanship, chooses candidates.

We, on the Progressive side, seem afraid to do that, or won't do that, or paint it like it's the wrong thing to do that, that people should make up their own mind. That's Sirota's stance. That it's not his job to tell us how to vote. So in the last election he wished both Bennet and Romanoff "good luck".

Sigh. Why? As a mailman I don't have all the time in the world to research every candidate, every issue, every proposition. I depend on my Progressive talkers to do that for me. I listen and absorb. If Sirota can't figure out which one to vote for, and he has all day to do the research, and he won't make a choice, how is a person who is on the fence to decide?

Why can't we be more like righty radio? Would that be wrong? What if Sirota had advocated for Romanoff constantly for the months going up to the election? Would that have made a difference? With Mario's help in the pm?

Who am I kidding? How many people listen to 760 anyway? Maybe 760? Happy Labor Day as I watch the middle class disappear in America.

Democratic arguments about "Republican obstructionism" only go so far.

I am a Democratic Party Precinct Committee person, but I swear, here and now, that if this Democratic Congress affirmatively votes to extend the tax breaks for millionaires, and this Democratic President signs that extension into law, I WILL quit the party.
Are you listening Rahm? Are you listening Barack? Are you listening DNC Chairman Kaine?

Fed Involvement in Education

Dave asked what listeners think about fed involvement in education this morning.

Citizens are so quick to blame the fed, or the President, or...ad nauseum!
I don't have an opinion about current fed involvement in education, but on principle I would err slightly toward less.

Here are factors in our society that have a tremendous impact on our children and our education system: parenting, permissive society, consumerism.

Most parents tend to stay in a childish state themselves. They haven't the fortitude to stop smoking, stop drinking, and stop playing the game of the ABC's of human nature, i.e. accusation, blame criticism. They don't grow into spiritually mature adults. They begin dying at an early age, and bear the responsibility of children, while they are at it. Then, when their children enter that same pattern through parent emulation, they blame someone else.

We have created a permissive society. It has been termed "the society of the individual" and if you think otherwise, you are un-american. When I visit third world societies, I see children maturing and taking their life opportunities seriously, probably because they don't have a "free lunch." They know they have to get with it or they will remain in poverty. Very cut and dried. CPT12 aired an incredible interview done in India society on this subject. They advance progress without leaving traditional wisdom values behind.

Such a dichotomy of values we have in our society! Rigid, conservative religious views (more ABC's of human nature with a different twist), and on the one hand, and fanatical devoting to materialism on the other. Is that behavior born out of emulation of the few wealthy? We buy look-alike products at the Dollar Store, to imitate products of the finer shops in town?

All of this "baggage" greatly taints the education of our beloved children. More than fed involvement? Whose to say?

As a Progressive, I am ao thoroughly disgusted with the ConservaDems who have taken over the Democratic Party that I have actually given very serious consideration to voting GREEN this fall. (And I still will if the Democrats cave in - again - and vote to extend the Bush tax cuts for Millionaires).

But, instead, I have decided to try to send the Democratic Party a clear message about how dissatisfied I am with the Center/Right direction the party is headed in, and, I am going to do that by WRITING IN ROMANOFF.

The message that I will be sending is simple: I am still a Democrat, for now; and, you had my vote, but LOST IT by moving too far to the Corporate Right.

To those who say "that means we will have 6 years of Senator Buck," I say "So what." The Democrats in the Senate didn't do anything meaningful with the 59 vote majority that we gave them in 2008, and they aren't going to do anything meaningful in the run-up to 2012, either.

NOTHING will change if Buck is our Senator (or if the Republicans take back control of the congress, for that matter) because we still have the Presidency, and (hopefully) President Obama would veto any GOP efforts to undo any of the weak reforms that the Congress has managed to pass.

I urge all Progressives to FIGHT to take back the Democratic Party, and, in this election cycle, we do that by WRITING IN ROMANOFF!

Appropriating the language of the civil rights movement.

So good to have Sirota back on air, after vacation.

It's white people who are oppressed. This is the Glenn Beck/conservative movement message.

Having someone like Beck, who previously said that Obama was a racist, had a deep seated hatred of white people (then I heard him retract that statement slightly on Howard Kurtz' Sunday show "Reliable Sources" but with the new attack that Obama is a black liberation theologist...

All these hundreds of thousands of Fox News watchers gathering where MLK JR gave his famous "I have a Dream" speech 47 years ago, most of them old and white, on Medicare and Medicaid, wanting to do away with Big Government?

The power of Glenn Beck and Fox and republican radio is frightening.

These three measures are going to severely hurt schools and libraries, emergency response in neighborhoods and road construction (and I'm sure seferal other areas of the state).
Now is the time when we should be spreading the word about these decepitve anti-tax, anti-Colorado measures, not the week before the electon.

I did watch the second video of Denver Cops beating up people for no apparent reason. You can still easily get to it, from the website, on Thursday. It's the one where some white guy? was walking two little dogs and stopped to help out, or find out what was going on with a traffic stop. After some fast forwarding he is suddenly being harassed by the police, two of them, roughed up, handcuffed, as his little dogs run around 20th Street from their released leashes.

And nothing was done?! With that evidence? The cops were allowed to lie about the incident. The Manager of Safety keeps his job. The Mayor calls in the FBI to investigate but nothing is done?

I have decided not to support Bennet for the senate. I voted for the only Democrat who was running Andrew Romanoff and he lost. Not that I was a big Romanoff fan, he just hasn't proved himself to be a complete sell out to every corporate lobbyist like Bennet has. I will vote for the Green party, I can not compromise my values low enough to support Bennet at all.

Perlmutter has not been great nor has he led on any issue. I can't think of anything significant that he has done to earn my vote but he hasn't completely spit in my face like Bennet and Udall have. I suppose I can support him as the lesser of two evils.

Hickenlooper can kiss my backside and I'm leaning toward not supporting him. What progressive issues and real solutions is he offering. I'm leaning towards not supporting him either

I heard the usual blather from a conservative talk show guy this morning: “Obama’s new taxes will kill jobs.”

We’ve all heard the mantra of the NRA, 2nd Amendment crowd: “Guns don’t kill people, people do.” Why do conservative get to have their cake and eat it too? By their own logic they ought to be claiming that "taxes don’t kill jobs, people do" – business people that is, in their never ending quest for higher profits.

There’s already a heck of a lot of corpses of dead jobs lying about rotting away right now. They’ve been stinking up the place for years. [I’ll let Rosen figure out if it’s laying or lying. He’s the expert on lying anyway]

The Private sector didn't produce enough new jobs to match population growth (not to mention the never ending flood of immigrants, legal and illegal) even under Bush 43’s upper class tax moratorium. It is businessmen, in fact, who have outsourced, exported, mechanized, downsized or simply imported cheaper legal and illegal replacement workers for millions of American jobs completely independently of the tax code.

All this Tea Party talk about taxes is just an attempt to sucker people with sweet sounding words. When are the American people finally going to say “Enough, already!”???

We hear the horror stories about Social Security soon going bankrupt because not enough workers will be putting money into the system in order to pay for the pensions of retiring Baby Boomers. We’re told the problem is a defect in Socialist philosophy. Conservatives give us bumper stickers with Margaret Thatcher’s ridiculous, yet hypnotizing quote: “The problem with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.”

Truth: The enormous wealth of our economy can easily pay the meager bills requited to keep seniors alive in a modest retirement. Instead, the greedy capitalists want to squeeze as much of that wealth out of the country and into their private bank accounts. Their M.B.A.s (Maximizer of (gold) Bullion Accumulations) stay up nights dreaming of ways to do this, from forcing workers into 17hr/seven day/two weeks on one week off shifts (Haliburton), or at the other extreme, eliminating all full time workers and employing only part timers at less than 30 hrs/week in order to avoid paying benefits.

Truth: At the rate we’re going, long before Social Security goes belly up due to lack of input funding from workers, most of the workers themselves will be belly up due to the fact that the business owners eliminated all the jobs!

Truth: Business owners don’t pay the measly tax increases anyway; they pass it on to consumers with higher prices. A few cents per item is not going to deter a consumer who wants or needs something. The problem right now is that consumers are afraid to spend because they don’t know if the greedy capitalists, who screwed up the system in the first place, will be laying more employees off.

Truth: This continent once was a veritable Garden of Eden, with riches beyond imagination. But like the Prodigal Son of the Old Testament, the Capitalists have squandered their inheritance. In so doing, they have brought us all to the brink of ruination.

How’s that Capitalism working out for y’all now?
